Beechwood Care Home, held their first ‘Drop in Café’ of 2018 last week; held on the last Wednesday of each month at the home, the café encourage carers, residents, families and friends to get together and support each other.
The Drop in Café has proven to be very popular and has evolved to not only offer support, but also invites knowledgeable guests to share advice. This month Lee Kelso an Improvement Programme Adviser from Care Inspectorate, who supports the home with their Care About Physical Activity (CAPA) programme attended the session.
Lee brought with her Vicki McKechnie, a new Policy Officer from Active Scotland who was keen to shadow some of the CAPA team; as an initiative funded by the Scottish Government, she asked if she could come along and find out more about the programme.
Cathy Togneri, Service Manager at Beechwood said: “Our residents really look forward to our café sessions, with afternoon tea and cakes, and are always especially excited about welcoming new and familiar faces from the local community. We wanted to create a hub for people to come and share their stories, bringing together people in similar situations that might provide some support for each other. We welcome anyone in the community to join us, our doors are open.”
Beachwood’s next Drop in Café will take place on 28th February 2.30-3.30pm.
