Beechwood Care Home, were busy celebrating the 103rd birthday of resident Alice Oates this week. Admitted to Beechwood on 24th March 2016, this is now Alice’s second birthday at the home, making her the oldest resident at Beechwood, followed by another who turned 102 this year.
Alice worked as a bus conductress in her younger years and latterly as a home help, providing support to people in the community who needed help with day-to-day tasks due to an illness or disability. One of her favourite pastimes was dancing, and now she participates in the homes Care About Physical Activity Programme (CAPA) completing theraband exercise sessions and chair exercises. Alice can lift her legs higher than most of the staff, and really enjoys being able to take part in the CAPA sessions, as they allow her to still be as active as possible.
Beechwood, located in Wishaw, organised a party for Alice’s big birthday, decorating the home, providing a lovely home made cake and 3 numbered helium balloons for 103. Her two sons Michael and Owen joined her for her special day as she opened her gifts and celebrated with everyone in the home.
