National Day of Arts in Care Homes

Residents and staff at Methven House Care Home in Kirkcaldy marked the National Day of Arts in Care Homes 2025 with a joyful morning of creativity, colour and connection — joined by some very special young guests from Dunnikier Park Nursery and Playgroup.

Methven House was alive with chatter and creativity as young and old worked side by side on story sharing and painting. And although there was plenty of mess, there were even more smiles.

The National Day of Arts in Care Homes, led by NAPA is a UK-wide celebration that highlights the power of creativity to enrich the lives of those living and working in care settings. This year’s theme, “Going Green”, encourages care homes to explore nature, sustainability and togetherness through art. Events like Methven House’s collaboration with Dunnikier Park Nursery show how creativity and intergenerational activities can spark joy, connection and mutual understanding across generations.

Methven House Service Manager, Roseanne Somerville, said:

“It was a wonderful day celebrating creativity and connection. The residents absolutely loved spending time with the children, their energy is infectious, and it brings added joy and warmth into the home. Each time we welcome groups into the home we’re reminded of how much we can learn from each other, regardless of age.”

Welcoming schools and nurseries into the home has become a much-loved part of life at Methven House. They encourage residents to express themselves creatively but also help strengthen community ties.
